In Case You've Wondered

My blog is where my wandering thoughts are interspersed with stuff I made up. So, if while reading you find yourself confused about the context, don't feel alone. I get confused, too.

If you're here for the stories, I started another blog: scratchingforchange.blogspot.com

One other thing: sometimes I write words you refuse to use in front of children, or polite company, unless you have a flat tire, or hit your thumb with a hammer.

I don't use them to offend; I use them to embellish.

Does This Ever Happen To You?

I had a dream last night. During the dream, I was conversing with my mother. I don't remember what we talked about, but it was as though she was still alive and it was another ordinary moment.

I have these often, with other family members that passed. The dreams are a slice of an alternate reality and those that died are still alive.

Has this happened to you?

  1. It has and I wake up feeling like I have lost them again. It is nice while I have the visit, but sucks when I realize it wasn't real.

    1. It's surreal and seems so ordinary - until I wake up.

  2. Yes, this has happened to me. Many times I have dreamed about sitting on the front porch talking with my Dad the way we did years ago. I don't know what we talked about, but it was like the comfortable conversations we had over the years.

    1. It's a strange feeling to awake, realize how they're gone, and miss the opportunities gone forever.

  3. Oh hell yes. And mom's still trying to kill me and I'm still running away carrying kittens, or other defenseless animals.

Different relationships make for different types of dreams.

    1. Yep; and different feelings when you awake.

  4. Sometimes. I even find myself reaching for the phone to call my mom and grandma who are both gone.

    1. I do that with my brother. He was the "go to" person in the family.

  5. I dream about my dad probably every couple months. Nothing profound, just normal everyday life.

And he's been dead 22 years.

    1. I've had those dreams. Everything is normal; until you awake.

  6. Oh yeah. Mostly with my father, with whom relations were often rocky. He'd show up and whatever I was doing was wrong. The dreams featuring my mother are a lot more ordinary and charged with a lot less emotion. These days, I don't get those kind of dreams with Dad so much. He's been gone since '98.

    1. It's amazing how people can affect your life, even after they're gone.

  7. I rarely remember my dreams anymore but I've had these dreams before, usually when a loss is still fresh. I'm happy with the blissful blank slate.
