In Case You've Wondered

My blog is where my wandering thoughts are interspersed with stuff I made up. So, if while reading you find yourself confused about the context, don't feel alone. I get confused, too.

If you're here for the stories, I started another blog: scratchingforchange.blogspot.com

One other thing: sometimes I write words you refuse to use in front of children, or polite company, unless you have a flat tire, or hit your thumb with a hammer.

I don't use them to offend; I use them to embellish.

I'm a Sucker for a Piano

I can fiddle around on the piano; even play something that doesn't hurt your ears. I don't play much anymore, but I will have spells where I tool around with my favorite style, which is blues and boogie woogie.

Still, I'm not this good, but it's something to aspire to.

  1. My goal in high school was to be able to play Rhapsody in Blue without people lobbing overripe fruit at me. I got to play it with a high school production and no one fell asleep or threw anything. The rust has seriously set in since then, but I still love that song, and if given enough alcohol can mangle "Maple Leaf Rag"
Thanks for leaving me the notes during the recent troubles It's appreciated.

    1. Everyone is different, but losing pieces of your heart is similar with everyone.

My mother didn't have an ear for music. In her youth, she learned many songs on the piano, but was forced to use sheet music. Me? I took lessons, but play by ear.

We learned the crap was hitting the fan, when we heard my mother play. She only played when she was upset and the outcome was seldom good.

    3. The piano is the "go to" instrument. Those with an ear can play anything. The same goes for those that can read music.

    4. Sorry, Jess. I was replying to Brigid.
Glad it got beter with your mom in later years, as it did with mine.

  2. I aspired to play piano after lessons. However, my ex sat behind me and commented on how wide my behind was, covering the bench and bound to break it. When we moved, he would not move my piano, so I lost the will to fight for my piano playing. He was relentless about complaining about my weight and fatness when I weighed 130 lbs., even when our son was just three months old, and I am 5' 8". Yes, he was an asshole, but I still sit and think about how I loved to play until the joy was dredged out of me.

Jess, playing the piano would have calmed me. Sorry about your mothert. I cannot see your video, but will try to look at it later and come back.

    1. Wow. I'm 5'-7" , weigh 150 lbs and far from being overweight. Asshole is a good description. He must have been beaten by overweight Amazons, when he was a child.

Playing the piano is my solitude and frustration. When the efforts produce something, it's calming. If not, I become frustrated and quit trying.

My mother, who was my stepmother, endured some terrible tragedies during her life. The accumulation of events led to depression and alcoholism. The effects of her disorders fractured the family and the scars are deep.

Still, when she was older, she beat her problems back to where being around her was not a constant lesson in dysfunction and I grew very close to her during her years without my father.

The person she actually was reappeared, I was blessed with being with her and had the opportunity to assist her during her final time on this Earth I'll cherish the time forever .

    2. Jess, I really am only 5' 7.5 " and have probably shrunk a half inch...lol. I believe his problem was neglect and just a mean spirit. It is good you at least have a good memory at the end, not that it negates the horrors of your young life.

I would like to be around the ex to assist him on his exit from this earth. Maybe you would like to read the blog that tells the whole story.

Now, there is no piano for me. I doubt I could do much but relearn now. Plus, my right hand is injured so I cannot reach a full octave. Maybe, some day.

I don't want to annoy you, but when will chapter ten be ready?

Oh, that was enjoyable watching and listening the guy in the airport play. "Beautiful Dreamer" is my aspiration.

    3. You're not annoying me; you're keeping me focused.

  3. A nice talent to have. I am talentless. Apart from that time I picked up a harmonica and accidentally played 10 seconds of a tune perfectly.
