The water used for boilers, depending on the pressure at which they operate, must be purified to the point that it is undrinkable.

These large industrial applications get charged a lot of money by the local city or county for the water they use. Many companies go this route, because the city picks up the costs of the first stages of water purification by making the water drinkable.
Sometimes, if the city can't or won't supply the water needed for their processes, they will pull from their own wells (ground water) or from a local river or lake (surface water) The water is dirt cheap, but the company has to take on all the costs in equipment and energy to convert river water full of fish poop into demineralized / deionized water. It's an expensive and complicated process, so they hire a guy like me to do it for them.

I could go on for hours.MSgt Bhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00035771485514432736noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-391026052555134300.post-53096225938243409512014-03-15T13:56:02.768-05:002014-03-15T13:56:02.768-05:00Sulfur is tough on just about everything, since th...Sulfur is tough on just about everything, since the corrosive substance it creates is sulfuric acid. Specialized coatings and some plastics help in certain applications, but mostly everything that contacts sulfur has a very limited life and the facility operators put the costs in their budgets.
