Great tune off of one of the greatest albums of the mid-80's, and an essential part of my desert-island collection. Not a single bad track.
I don't think Mark served in the military, but he captured the feeling with his song. I have the feeling close friends did and they were close enough for him to know how much their time in service bonded them to who were once total strangers.

Yes it is. Mark Knopfler is one of my favorites. A little Youtube perusing finds he's played with many musicians and some of the music was far from rock.
