Elton John - Funeral for a Friend / Love Lies Bleeding

  1. 2nd best (or 2nd and 3rd, depending on how you slice these cuts) tune on his double album, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, circa 1973. Best cut is All the Girls Love Alice.

    1. So much of that album was never presented on the radio, which was a shame. The album was one of his best.

  2. I agree the the "All the Girls Love Alice" - one of the best.
A local Conservative Talk radio host ruined "Tiny Dancer" for me. He used to play it as bumper music for political news about Rahm Emanuel and Chicago. Sorry, the dancer is dead to me....

    1. "All the Girls Love Alice" was an uncomfortable subject matter at the time. That prevented it from having a lot of air play.

  3. Yellow Brick Road was one of the first albums I ever bought, saved up babysitting money for it. I was not disappointed. I dearly love "All the Girls Love Alice", because it's a story. Always liked story songs. "Funeral For A Friend" has always made me cry and I've never investigated the reason. Some things are best left unknown, I suspect.

    1. I liked the entire album, just like "Honky Chateau". I'm thinking it's due to the writing of Bernie Taupin, which was as brilliant as the musical compositions of Elton John.
