When I see kids constantly hopping and running, serving no purpose, I believe Shaw knew exactly what he was talking about. If I could just walk without wincing, there's so many things I would be happily making, repairing, or cleaning.
The aches and pains are what hamper enjoying the golden years. That's what only those that lived many decades understand, and those that ignore their blessings never realize, until they're older.
A woman at work used to say it every day at least three times a day, and while it is, as you say, a very valid and true axiom, it can also get annoying. So I started coming back with "Mice are wasted on cats." "Rain is wasted on puddles." "Crack is wasted on middle management." She has now moved on to movie quotes, which I find to be an improvement.
