I was talking with a coworker yesterday, that brought up an interesting point: He thinks the press, since they DO have a lot of power, enjoys the character destruction of people. If so, there's a feeding frenzy in the near future. The water has plenty of chum and those in the water are wounded at the least.
Let the feeding begin.
