I've been surprised at how well the band has continued over the last few decades with almost all the original members gone.
Gary Rossington and Billy Powell were power players, continued their excellent style, but the loss of Billy Powell makes me wonder if Gary Rossington can keep it together and the band will survive.
Ahhhh, throw that bacon in the pan. If I made a bar graph with favorite bands on the 'x' axis and time I've spent listening on the 'y', Skynyrd would be in the top 2 or 3 for this yankee.
I could relate to the band. I was in bands during that time, with some of the musicians of the same caliber as those in Lynyrd Skynyrd. Their success was not by accident. The usual band was decimated by alcohol, drugs, girlfriends and wives.
To make it as far as they did was due lots of practice, concentration and a devotion to their music. It's a tough thing to accomplish; especially if only one member doesn't understand it's a business and causes problems by missing practice or gigs.
Our hometown band. Their old engineer is a personal friend of mine. He smells like wet dog.

I'm here, turning up my amplifiers and tuning my Fender. And Stephen is here too. (It's not safe for me to go to his blog)
ReplyDeleteWhat song do you want to hear, lil' buddy of mine.
Statesboro Blues in G.
