I'm posting these photos with the hope that parents will show them to their children that spend a lot of time in the sun. Lighter skin has a higher chance of cancer, but the ionizing radiation of the sun can damage all types of skin. In the end, Mohs procedure is the lesser of procedures when dealing with skin cancer. If it metastasizes, the extra treatments include chemo and radiation therapy. If it's melanoma, the chances of survival can be really low.
Yeah...skin cancer sucks. My wife has had 3 melanomas removed, 2 basal cell and a squamous cell. She was a blond, blue eyed big tit So. Cal sun worshipper whe she was young. Now she's paying the price for all those hours at the beach/sunbathing.
ReplyDeleteThe sun is ruthless. Most don't realize the ionizing radiation is just as damaging as x-rays to the top layers of the skin. When the chromosomes are damaged, the damage is permanent.
DeleteTechnically x-rays and their more energetic big brother gamma rays are ionizing radiation. UV rays and others lower in the EMF spectrum are considered no ionizing. But UV is just below x-ray on the spectrum and can, over time cause damage with prolonged repeated exposure. Bit of a gray area in physics.
DeleteThat it does. Glad you 'caught' it early. Chemo is no fun!
ReplyDeleteI wish my wife had snapped a photo of the circle the doctor drew before the surgery. From what I see, he stayed in the lines.
DeleteYeouch!
