In Case You've Wondered

My blog is where my wandering thoughts are interspersed with stuff I made up. So, if while reading you find yourself confused about the context, don't feel alone. I get confused, too.

If you're here for the stories, I started another blog: scratchingforchange.blogspot.com

One other thing: sometimes I write words you refuse to use in front of children, or polite company, unless you have a flat tire, or hit your thumb with a hammer.

I don't use them to offend; I use them to embellish.

Saving The Planet - A Few Birds at a Time

Google, and some California energy companies, own a solar power facility that has the distinction of causing birds to ignite as they fly into the concentrated sunlight.

The irony is thick with this one. I guess we have to kill them to save them.

  1. They need to make it illegal for birds to fly there.

  2. Oh Well. Sorry for the birds.

  3. Let's see if we can phrase this in the form of a Haiku...
    Feathers soaring sky
    Solar panels laser beams
    Icarus wax puddle

  4. Greedy, uncaring humans...suck.

  5. I'd rather have some solar power and a few less birds than otherwise. Might be different if I were a bird. I'd probably just go shit on a car or something to express my displeasure.
Okay, now I want fried chicken.

  6. I was born, raised and live in an area that's surrounded by petrochemical facilities. All my life, and professional career, it's been the same crap how what pays the bills is destroying the planet and we should all suffer bureaucrats and their arbitrary interpretation of regulations that mandate discharge waters are less harmful than Ben and Jerry's ice cream.

Meanwhile, government sanctioned "renewable" energy producers massacre wildlife like a bunch of drunk sadist at their annual picnic and we're supposed to just turn our heads an move along.

Screw them, their families, and the horses they rode in on.

  7. I do think the birds and planet are important, but what is this frying of birds? Is this even possible? Concentrated sunlight? Are we putting them under magnifying glasses? I don't understand how solar panels can kill birds by heat. Okay, I will go read the article.

    1. A large magnifying glass is a good analogy. Solar light is focused and used to heat a liquid and the liquid is used to power generators. The concentrated light can be at a temperature high enough cause clothing to catch fire in an instant. A bird that flies into the concentrated light can be burned instantly.

  8. They keep building those solar farms even though they also keep shutting them down as inefficient money pits. It is as if they are only building them because someone is paying them to build them, not because they have any intention of making electricity with them.

    1. They're like the ethanol refineries. Huge tax dollar money pits.
