In Case You've Wondered

My blog is where my wandering thoughts are interspersed with stuff I made up. So, if while reading you find yourself confused about the context, don't feel alone. I get confused, too.

If you're here for the stories, I started another blog: scratchingforchange.blogspot.com

One other thing: sometimes I write words you refuse to use in front of children, or polite company, unless you have a flat tire, or hit your thumb with a hammer.

I don't use them to offend; I use them to embellish.

A Song That Makes Me Stop...

...and listen.

This is one of my favorites. I think you'll enjoy it.

    1. The live version is good, but the original recorded version is much better.

  2. As a dad with Princess approaching the age of leaving the nest, this song can't help but bring at least a slight tear to the eyes. Thanks.

    1. It's a big step to leave home, start the life of an adult and letting go.

To a young adult, it's the first taste of liberty, and it comes with many flavors.

To the parent, it's the final testament to their parent skills. They can only hope they did enough and endure the sadness of letting go.

  3. I couldn't understand her words very well, but THE CAT'S IN THE CRADLE is as far as I'll go where hearing a "tear jerker" song is concerned. To me, it's like sticking needles in my eyes through my ears. lol

    1. I'm a sucker for a sad song. I listen, even though they make me sad.

It's like riding a roller coaster, except you usually don't have to pay to be upset.

  4. Yes, that was a tear jerker...and it's early so now I'll have a stuffy nose the rest of the day. DAMNIT!

Our youngest has only a few more weeks before leaving to serve as a state officer in the FFA for the next year. It will require that she postpone college, and it will be a whirlwind...everyone has already warned me not to expect visits or even more than an occasional phone call...sigh...

And, lotta joy, YES! "The Cat's in the Cradle" is an all-time blubber-inducing wreak of a song. Can't listen without a box of Kleenex...

    I need Kleenex right now.

    1. "The Cat's in the Cradle" paralleled my life a little too closely.

My dad worked hard his entire life. Even after I moved away, he still worked hard to insure a good life for my younger brother and sister.

When he was finally to the point I could see he was getting the opportunity to slow down, and I could spend more time just visiting and drinking a beer, cancer took him.

Oddly enough, the song "In The Living Years" was playing on the radio, when I was driving home to comfort my mother.
