In Case You've Wondered

My blog is where my wandering thoughts are interspersed with stuff I made up. So, if while reading you find yourself confused about the context, don't feel alone. I get confused, too.

If you're here for the stories, I started another blog: scratchingforchange.blogspot.com

One other thing: sometimes I write words you refuse to use in front of children, or polite company, unless you have a flat tire, or hit your thumb with a hammer.

I don't use them to offend; I use them to embellish.

So Much For The Flu Vaccine

My wife has Influenza A. She had the flu shot, so the symptoms are not terrible, but it's still the flu.

So far, after a feeling of malaise on Thursday evening, some Nyquil, and 13 hours of sleep that night, I've been good. Maybe I was starting to suffer, my home remedies were effective, and I'll continue with no flu.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

  1. The flu shot doesn't prevent against the flu, it helps prevent against the complications of the flu (pneumonia primarily) especially in the frail elderly and in the younger set (under 10 say).

And in order to work the best against the flu, you need to have received it at least 2 weeks before you are exposed.

The best preventative, however, remains hand washing and not touching your face/nose/eyes until you have washed your hands. Especially after you have been out in public ANY place. (Or when little kids have come to visit. Germs are more concentrated when packed into kiddos.) Come home and wash hands with lots of warm soapy water for at least 2 refrains of the Happy Birthday song. Scrub! Fluids and lots of rest certainly help. I am a fan of elderberry syrup as well. Tastes yummy over ice cream, and I like it in tea when I'm fighting off the crud.

Hope you beat the flu off.

    1. So far, so good. We both received flu vaccines over a month ago. My wife's doctor prescribed Tamiflu, which seems to be lessening the symptoms daily.

Hopefully I won't get the flu, since Tamiflu will probably require a loan, or robbing a convenience store. The price is outrageous.

  2. I heard they picked the wrong flu strain again this year.

    1. From my understanding, the choice of the vaccine is only slightly better than a coin toss. If they make a really bad decision, the most prevalent flu strain might not be part of the vaccine.

    1. I'm good, and my wife is dealing with the final stages. Thanks for asking.
